About the Conference
Industrial minerals are the essential raw materials which have myriad uses in range of industrial and domestic products used in our everyday life. The industry of non-metallic minerals is best known for the production of cement, ceramics, glass, and lime products.
Non-metallic minerals like limestone and minor minerals such as gypsum and sand are used in the construction industry for making cement, concrete, and building materials. Whereas in agriculture, minerals like phosphate and sulfur are used as fertilizers to enhance soil fertility and crop production. With the focus on development of the rural segment and rapid urbanization programmes such as ‘Make-in-India’, it is envisaged that there would be stronger demand of these group of minerals in the near future.
The industrial minerals are not only important because of their varied uses but also play vital role in generating employment opportunities and inclusive growth. In the country’s economy, annual value of production of non-metallic major minerals increased to the level of Rs.10605 crore in 2021-22 to Rs. 12236 crore in 2022-23, out of which the major contributors are limestone, phosphorite, marl, wollastonite etc.
