International Conference on Steel Slag Road
29th June 2024 | The Oberoi, New Delhi

ABOUT THE EVENT
Steel Slag is one of the major solid wastes generated during steel making process. For every ton of steel production around 200 to 300 kg steel slag is generated as solid waste in an integrated steel plant. Around 19 million tons of solid steel slag is generated annually in India from various integrated steel plants and this quantity is expected to reach to 60 million tons by the end 2030.

CSIR-CRRI under a major research project sponsored by Ministry of Steel has developed the potential utilization of steel slag as substitute of natural aggregates in the form of Steel Slag Road to facilitate large scale utilization of steel slag in road construction.

This techno-economic conversion of steel slag as processed steel slag aggregates with CSIR-CRRI technological intervention rendered the processed steel slag aggregates as superior cost effective alternative of natural aggregates for road construction. Further under CSIR-CRRI technological guidance processed steel slag aggregates developed at India’s leading steel plants are successfully utilized for construction of Steel Slag Roads in various parts of the country The conference focuses on the innovative uses of steel slag in road construction as a means of promoting sustainable development and addressing waste management challenges.

Steel slag, a byproduct of steel production, has traditionally been viewed as a waste material requiring disposal. This conference serves as an ideal forum for industry leaders, policymakers, and government officials to convene, exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore the potential of steel slag as a sustainable green infrastructure solution for transforming waste into wealth.
